Adventures At Sea

There are many species of whales in Greenland. Here in Ilulissat region is the humpbag whale an the minke whale the most common whales. The humpback whale is here to eat fish, squid and krill. The humpback whale is one of the larger rorqual species, adults range in length from 12–16 m (39–52 ft) and weigh about 36,000 kg (79,000 lb).

The minke whale is not as big as the humpback whale. The minke whales are the second smallest baleen whale and can be up to 10 m (33 ft) typically weigh about 4–5 t. We sail in diskobay waters near Ilulissat depends on where the whale is that day.

Sometimes it could be difficult to find whales, but in cooperation with local fishermen and other sailors we can find the whales by VHF radio communication.

See the giant icebergs which comes out from Ilulissat Icefjord. Sermeq Kujalleq is the most productive glacier in the Northern Hemisphere and is placed 60 km (37 miles) East of Ilulissat, in the head of the Ilulissat icefjord. The glacier flows at a rate of 20–35 m (66–115 ft) per day, resulting in around 20 billion tonnes of icebergs calved off and passing out of the fjord every year, right outside of Ilulissat!

Enjoy the evening sun among icebergs, from 21st of May to 24th August you can experience the midnight sun. With us you have opportunity to see the sun in the late evening and having a sensation of the midnight sun.
